    Hi Alison,

How's your week going so far?  I was wondering what kind of exercise you put in during the week so that you can manage a 10km run?  If you have the time, could I be so bold as to ask if you could post your exercise in here?  I know it's hard to steal a few moments to yourself on the computer - that's me all over!  But I would be interested to see your training approach and goals too.

    Re: Chocaholic's progress report

    Hi Lorna

Actually I was going to do it yesterday, but ran out of time! I had a good week exercise-wise last week. Ran to kinder and back Mon morning (3km?) then did a 5km run on t/mill in the afternoon, pump class Tue early am, then cardio session in gym Tue a.m. Pump class Thur early am, and another pump  class Fri morning, then 10km run on Sun morn.

I was great until Thurs. food-wise. That was the 1st anniversary of my brother's death, and I seemed to lose the plot after going to the cemetery with my sister on Thur afternoon. Once I get back into bad habits I find it so hard to get back out of themSad [:(]

Anyway, Lorna, that's not a typical week for me, but when I'm running a 10km (normally on a Sun morning) I usually do a 5-6km run on t/mill on Monday, then do a cardio/weights gym session on Tue and my normal pump class on Fri ( I'm still tied to creche times at the gym, so I have, until now , only gone twice a week to the gym- trying to do some 6:15am classes as well from now on!) If I'm not doing a fun run, I'll do one or two runs on t/mill at home  on Wed/Thur.

Now that I'm "into" running, I really enjoy it- I don't know if I have any great natural ability, but it seems to be "my thing"- at least at the minute!!LOL!!Even the first 10km run I did, I wasn't exercising at the time, hadn't done any sort of preparation, or anything, but I managed to run most of it (stopped and started after 7km), and did it in 1hr, 2mins (boy, was I sore the next day!!!)  I'd like to swim, but I really hate it every time I do it, and I'm just no good at it, basically Grin1 [grin1] , so I guess you just have to find something you enjoy, and that you feel comfortable doing.

Hope I've answered your ? without waffling on toooooo much!Big Smile [:D]  Alison

    Re: Chocaholic's progress report

Thanks Alison, that was a good run-down (pardon the pun)!!  All I'm doing is running up and down the backyard to get my HR up, and a bit of skipping.  I'm feeling it in the calves, hammies, quads and butt regions, so it's doing something.  Don't know if I'll turn into a runner, but at the moment, I'm just dabbling in stuff to see what sticks.  Good advice, thanks!

    Re: Chocaholic's progress report

He-he, well, birthdays seem to come around a bit  too quickly these days!!! My 6yo said "how old are you again, mum?" to which I naturally responded "21!" and he shot back with "no you're not - you're 37!!!" - DOH!!!Anyway, had a nice day. Did  a pump class, took daughter to swimmimg lesson, then dropped her off to hubby and went out for lunch with gfs - very nice!

I went and had my feet assessed by "Active feet", the podiatry/sports place the other day. They put you on a treadmill and watch the way your feet pronate, etc, then test numerous pairs of runners and find the right pair for your feet, basically. So I got a pair of (very pretty) pink Brooks runners ($200 later- yikes!), so that was one of my pressies (can't wait to start using those!) and a beautiful pink dressing gown, some stripey bed sox, and 2 pairs of proper running pants - you know the ones made out of that dri-fit stuff.....don't know how flattering they look on, but I think they will be really good for the fun runs, anyway. You can check'em out at the Spring Into Shape series!!LOL!! I think today we're also going into the Quikstop shop (Quiksilver outlet- hubby's FAVE shop!!) to get me a sports watch with a stop watch - they apparently have all these $140 - $200 watches for $40 at the minute!!!It's just  in Smith St , so a quick 20 min trip up the freeway for us......Nike, Adidas, Fila shops are also there.......

SO, anyway, thanks, and YES , I had a lovely day, didn't go out for dinner - kids were too tired, etc, but hubby organized a very wicked cake, got spoiled with pressies and ate WA-A-A-Y too much- but who cares, you can do that on your b'day!!!ROTFL [ROTFL] Anyway, I can work off what I ate, unfortunately the extra age sticks!!!!AAAAARGHHH!!!Sad [:(]Grin1 [grin1]

    Re: Chocaholic's progress report

    Hi Choca,

Glad to hear you had a lovely birthday.

A few months ago I bought a pair of shoes through Athletes Foot, same deal being "tested" for the right shoes.  It's made an incredible difference to me.  For about 6 months I had problems walking, with really sore "sides" on my feet. I put up with it for ages. Since buying my new shoes, the pain has disappeared!  I can't recommend enough - the value of being properly fitted for good walking/running shoes. I know it costs - but it's worth it.

    Re: Chocaholic's progress report

Feeling BLAH! today, and I just saw a post I wrote (obviously months ago) when I had got below 60kg, so now I'm feeling a little depressed , too! I just haven't been able to get back into good eating habits, and as usual, the worse I eat, the more I want to continue to eat badly!!!!And for me, it's all about the eating - I do plenty of exercise- I just need to cut down on the lifting of the hand to the mouth exercise!!!

Yesterday I wore  a pair of jeans which had almost got a bit big a couple of months ago, and they were......well, absolutely NOT too big Sad [:(] I haven't weighed myself for a while, but I don't have to, I know I'm not where I want to be when my clothes don't fit properly!

Hubby booked a trip to Noosa in Nov. and I want to wear bikinis - comfortably!!!!He reckons I'm "events motivated" (ie Coldplay concert!!!Lol [lol]) I'm nt sure about that, but I know when I put those jeans on yesterday, I thought  "It's time........"

So, I've decided to go the low carb road, as I know that it's what works for me ( and fast, too - says she of little patience!!!)

Hopefully, THIS is the first day of my PERMANENTLY healthy eating!!!Oh, and I think the chocolate will have to disappear from my life for the next year or so!!!We'll see how  I go.....Alison

    Re: Chocaholic's progress report

Like I said yesterday, I felt REALLY awful - and I KNOW it's b/c of my very poor food choices recently. So, after that, and the ill-fitting jeans episode, I feel committed to making healthier choices!I decide I probably should weigh myself, so I did this am - 64.1kg, 30.5% b/fat. So I've gone from 69.8kg down to 58.8kg, back up to 64.1kg, and I'm feeling......well, furious with myself, to be honest. My fat% started in Feb at 34.5%, so I'm happy tht it has come down, but I would still like to get it to about 25% ( I always weigh first thing, so fat% is always at it's highest)And I REALLy, REALLY want to get down to that 57kg - I felt SO good at 58.8kg, I know I'd feel fabulous at 57kg!!!

My biggest thing is still chocolate, so I've decided to go cold turkey on that. At the gym this morning, I was talking to one of the instructors, and a couple of other girls, and I said that I was going to give it up for 12 months, and he said "yeah, right - you won't do it!" Oooooh, I saw RED!!! I am very stubborn, so when someone tells me I can't do something I've said I will, it just makes me more determined - so, I WILL do it!!!!! (He's actually a really nice, down to earth guy, and I think he was probably just baiting me, knowing how I'd respond - but that's good - now I HAVE to do it!!!Lol [lol]Shock2 [shock2]ROTFL [ROTFL]  Oh, and when I was telling the other girls that I'd put 5 of the 11kg I'd lost back on, he butted in with "so, when are you going to put the other 6 back in??!".......Grrrrrr....*lol* Alison
