Re: NRMA Insurance's Biggest Loser Comp- Update

I just realised how long it's been since I last posted in my journal.

To update on the comp at work, it was officially launched on 1 Feb and will now run for 3 months instead of 6.  The launch of the comp was two weeks after our first meeting.  The girl running the comp reweighed us- I'd been having a really crap couple of weeks- felt the jeans getting tighter and it's been soo hot during the day that I haven't been walking as much.  Anyway I got on the scales and have lost .8kg  in 2 weeks.  All the participants have access to a $100 allowance to spend to get them started- whether it be on joining Weight Watchers or the gym or something similar but fitness related.  One of the boys at work is studying to be a dietician so he's going to practice some of his skills with us.

Lol, watch him if he's in the comp too. He might give you all the 'alternate' meal plan! Grin1

That sounds like a fantastic competition at your work, now if only all the workplaces in Australia would follow suit then we'd be a happier healthier nation!!Smile

No the student dietician isn't competing- he's offering his assistance 'in line with the company values'... in the long run it'll help  him out with his career.  Some of the sports minded people will also be working with us for an exercise plan.  There's about 18 of us competing now for $500 and it just happened to fall in line with TBL airing on TV.

Re: NRMA Insurance's Biggest Loser Comp- Update

Ok has anyone else been using Stevia?  I bought some but ran out about a week ago & haven't gotten arond to buying anymore yet.  I have discovered it was actually helping with the cravings I was getting for sweet foods.  So I think I'll be venturing back to the health food shop in the next couple of days.

Stevia's a sweetener- available at the health food shop in tablet & liquid form.  It's made from a plant as opposed to products such as Nutrasweet that are made from a chemical such as aspartame.  It's much better for you.

I will be buying more Stevia today on the way home from work... I had a terrible day yesterday- we were fed cake for morning tea at work then I had an icecream at lunchtime and a fingerbun for arvo tea...baaaad!  I haven't done that for so long.

Re: NRMA Insurance's Biggest Loser Comp- Update

We had a small celebration at work on Tues morning- I finished probation hence we had cake & cheese & crackers.

I went walking with one of my workmates yesterday after work- through Southbank, across the Goodwill Bridge, along the city side of the river & back to work via the Victoria Bridge.  45 mins all up- not sure of the distance but I'm sure it did some good.

The girl I sit next to at work has Lymphodema- I think that's how it's spelt.  It's swelling of the leg- the blood travels down the leg and pools because the blood vessels can't pump it back up.  She also has some ulcers on her leg.  I believed her when she said a blood clot triggered it.  However, I saw a story on tv the other night that said it's a very serious side effect of obesity.  I know I sound mean but I can't help but hope it never happens to me- it's good motivation to lose the weight having to watch her suffer.
