    Re: Bad Gout!

The positive spin is that losing weight can aggravate gout.

    http://www.arthritissa.org.au/asp/conditions_treat_gout.asp

    Has some information.

    Some foods aggravate gout.

Considering you recent surgery you may be stuck with it for a while.

May be worth seeing the doctor about.

    Re: Bad Gout!

I finally caved and went to the Doctors yesterday - Every morning my feet seemed to be a bit better, but about 6pm at night they decided they might throb a bit, then again at say 230am.  I got given an anti-inflammatory(sp?) that I can only take twice a day at the moment to see if my new stomach will handle it.  There is a slight improvement, but I am so looking forward to wearing a pair of shoes some time soon - my feet get so cold in the crumby thongs that are the only thing I can wear.

Back to have my first visit with my surgeon tomorrow.  My weight has jumped around a bit over the past week.  One week after surgery I was still at the same weight as the day I had surgery - I had a bit of fluid still to get rid of.  About five days later I had dropped ten kilos - I thought it would continue to drop slowly but it has gone up and come back down to where it was.  I'm not too worried, but obviously my experience will be different to others I have spoken to and my weight loss pattern is vastly different, so far, to theirs.

Have tried a range of different foods, some more successful than others.  Not that I ate that quickly before but I find myself having to slow down a bit sometimes as things seem to get a little stuck.  I have challenged myself a bit, but the chewing required for some foods makes my jaw so sore - me thinks I will be exercising my face quite a bit going back to normal foods.

Anywho, I am off to spend some time outdoors...Cool

    Frustration

My weight loss has completely stalled.  I am so frustrated, and feel like I am going to be stuck on small amounts of food for the rest of my life and still not lose weight.  I know losing 10 kilos in three weeks is fantastic, but I have already plateaued, which seems absolutely ridiculous.

    Very Cranky!!Angry1

I think everybody has periods that you loose less than you like.

Sensibly if you are eating noticeably less you must loose weight assuming you haven’t changed a moderate sensible diet for 100% chocolate.

    Re: Frustration

There is a school of thought that says taking a break from dieting can help "fool" the body in times like this, I don't mean pig out, just eat a LITTLE more for a couple of days or so. Like *I* am the best person to offer advice! LOL!

    Losing weight again - yipee!

Clap <y weight has started to go down again Clap

Thank God!!!!!  I was wondering what was going on.  In the last few days I have noticed the scales going down nearly a kilo a day - I know it will end sometime, but it is very encouraging at the moment.  The not so good side of it is that the gout is back in my right foot - thank goodness not both feet this time.  Plus I had the anti-inflammatories at the ready this time so it hasn't been so bad.Surprise

Getting back to thinking in terms of what exercise to do......  researching different places online but wish that they would put all their costs on their website.  I won't be going back to MM, it just costs way too much, but I will miss it.

Re: Losing weight again - yipee!

The classic gentle beginner’s exercises are walking and maybe swimming.

I found resistance bands an interesting alternative to weights.

Nice to here the weight is coming off.

    Slow and Steady.....

Had a checkup with my GP the other day - she is very happy with my progress, I have now lost 21kgs since the bypass.  It is slow again at the moment, just means I need to lay off the carbs and do some serious walking.Walk1

Will be seeing my surgeon next week, so want to lose a few more kilos to make my total loss look even more impressive.1st

Everything else is going well, apart from the evil gout that is still plaguing me.  GP has given me a new tablet for it that I may have to take until I stop losing weight and am at goal.  It's a small price to pay for success....

Great to read about the weight loss.

Are you clothes beginning to seem bigger?

    Re: Slow and Steady.....

GP gave me Zyloprim - it has improved the chronic gout, still there but only a dullish ache.  It has also helped with my hips and knees that have decided to ache lately.

Appt with surgeon went well.  Told me I need to stop snacking - it is totally just a habit, I don't need the extra food.  I am only to have two snack size meals and one small meal a day - this seems too little to me and if I have to reduce my intake at a later stage due to a plateau I will be in the poo.  Have decided that I will have three small meals a day and see how the weight loss goes, if I need to I'll reduce one meal and see - if that doesn't work I'll have the two snack size meals.....etcJuggle.

I need to start walking again, I haven't made time to do much as yet but have found that I am running around a lot more at work at the moment so thee is some incidental exercise happening.  I have lost my motivation for exercise at the moment, and don't know how to re-energise myself.  I am in a rut of tiredness.  I need to go and get my B12 injection to stop my vagueness and grouchiness and it just may give me the boost I needSleep1.

Have tried a protein supplement because I need extra protein - I think my hair is thinning a bit due to less protein than I need - anywho, I bought "powerbar - Protein Plus".  It must be loaded with sugar because I have added quarter the recommended dose to my breakfast optislim shake and each time it has caused Dumping Syndrome.  This morning I added it to my shake and almost instantly felt a headache coming, then my heart was racing, extreme nausea.Ick!.......I can't bare to be spoken to, or touched at this time and have to lay in a dark room until the symptoms start to go away. I am getting pretty good at avoiding dumping syndrome on the whole, but I didn't expect my protein supplement to be so high in sugar that it would make me ill.  Trust me to go for the least expensive supplement which turns out to be so wrong for me - serves me right for not reading the label since I was in a big hurry that day....

Anywho, must go find something for lunch - everything seems unappealing at the moment.

    Damn Fundraisers..

I forgot to add before my extra challenges for this week.  We bought fundraiser pie, and cookie dough from my sister in law's kids this week.  It was ridiculously expensive for what it was but I don't mind since it's for my nephews.  I have been totally bad with eating cookie dough out of the fridge, and managed to slightly burn the biscuits I did make from it.  It is all now safely in the bin, out of the way and no longer tempting me.  Damn you delicious triple chocolate cookies!!!!!!!!!!!

    yay me

Yay me for getting motivated to have a trot on my treadmill today - even after chucking a wobbly at hubby for piling junk on it and using it as storage.  Have got myself a plan happening, and going to stick to it.1st

    Re: yay me

I think you need to remember it was a major operation and you need time to heal.

Equally by now you should have healed so some activity would be good.

How long since you were this light?
