    20 laps

Went swimming on Saturday managed to do 20 laps in the pool took an hour and 40 minutes I did 13 laps in the first hour.

Have not swum 20 laps for at least 20 years.

I think at 100 minutes for 1 kilometre I am a long way off competitive pace.

I was a tad stiff afterwards but nothing that lasted more than a couple of hours.

Swimming must be boring it takes about 80 strokes to do 50 m so 1600 repetitions.

The first time I went swimming 2 years ago I struggled to swim 20 m and managed 4 laps

Got on the scales this morning lost another 1.2 Kg

    Now 121.5 Kg

The surgeon TOLD (no negotiation on this) me to loose 10 Kg before the operation.

    I may just do it.

    Re: 20 laps

Hi Don, What stroke are you swimming? If freestyle or crawl, I have some tips to improve your stroke efficiency and reduce the number of strokes per lap.

    Well done Don.

You're really attacking this with the right attitude. At your current rate of weight loss they may just eliminate the surgery and keep you on your current program!

    Re: 20 laps

I have been swimming breast stroke for the majority of the distance.

And no doubt I could lose all my excess weight using a VLCD but I am uncertain I wish to spend the rest of my life only having a chocolate milkshake to drink as far as food is concerned.

I have lost weigh in the past and I struggle to maintain the weight loss.

The culture of you need to eat & drink lots or you can’t be enjoying yourself seems well entrenched at least in the section of society that I seem to be involved in.

The band will force me to change these habits.

It should also make me feel full a lot sooner and for a lot longer.

    Fruit bread

Had a lapse last night ate a heap of fruit bread.

My wife works in a bakery and often brings home freebees.

This is one of my favourites.

Asked my wife this morning is she eats fruit bread she replies sometimes (I have never seen her eat this in the 16 years I have known her).

She got defensive when I asked if I could throw the rest of it away because I was worried that I may eat it.

Sometimes people’s words don’t match their actions.

I suppose with the lap band it will only be a 1 slice lapse (if I can eat bread at all) rather than a 2/3 of a loaf laps.

Life goes on I suppose this is only an extra 4-5 hours in the pool on the weekend.  Hmm

    Re: Fruit bread

Don, I just have to say, I am REALLY sorry your wife is finding it too hard to be supportive for you. I am really proud of the steps you are taking, and I feel for you when something like this comes up. I also feel for your wife, she obviously is having huge issues with this. Whether she feels bad because she thinks she should be doing it to, or it scares her to see you being so strong, I don't know. I just hope that something gives in her mind, and she can REALLY be there for you, ity would sure make your job alot easier!

    You’ll need a ladder

Had a call from a woman who had a swarm of bees in a tree.

How high are the bees? I ask.

She seemed calm and said you will probably need a ladder and the bees would be easy to get to.

I got there and the bees where about 20m from the ground.

She seemed disappointed I didn’t have a 20m step ladder.

Al least it wasn’t a long drive to get to.

    Re: You’ll need a ladder

    I must admit no.

I think anybody who has an alternative lifestyle is often forced to be discrete or even secretive about it.

While not bothering to get dressed in the morning may seem to some to be between eccentric and immoral.

The amount of harm that it is likely to cause to me seems modest.

It does seem that a lot of people struggle to separate nudity and sex.

But personally anybody who manipulates bees without protective clothing seems silly to me.

    enviroment & bees

Hi Jane while a few less clothes may help from what I have seen nudists are quite a cross section of society from all extremes when it comes to the environment.

And Ray well if you keep bees long enough well eventually you do get stung everywhere.

I will suggest the most painful place to get stung is on the scalp it seems the skin is very tight and there is no room for swelling.

    Re: enviroment & bees

I haven't been stung too many times really (about a dozen), but the one that hurt the most was when I was stung on the bridge of my nose by a wasp!

I was about 15 and walking through a paddock. No warning, just landed on me and bam!
