Ray, what excersizes can you do, when your knees make it hard to do stuff like lunges and squats etc? My knees are shot, because of my excess weight and even though they feel heaps better with losing some of it, it's still hard to do such excersizes!

It's hard to say without checking you out (it could be any number of problems. Some can be fixed quite quickliy).

That said, anything non-weight bearing is good (swimming, bike). There are many options in fitness centres because the machines allow you to reduce the weight (if only you could do that with your body Big Smile [:D]) but at home you can be limited.

Can you try doing partial squats (only going down a shorter distance). You can start with that and build it up as you adapt. Of course you should warm up thoroughly before doing these as well.

I also have problems with the lunges, am supposed to do 3 sets of 10 lunges per leg. I get through two sets with difficulty (and im not using any weights yet either, just lunges alone) and the third set I can barely keep myself upright, legs wobble and pushing back upwards is very hard.

Is weird, I can manage my daughters weight (20kg) sitting on my feet and lifting both legs up, holding them for count of five, then lowering again. I can do countless reps of this (involves me sitting or lieing on the lounge or bed with legs mid thigh and down over the edge), but I can't manage three sets of lunges (and then climb the stairs out of the gym without pulling myself up the handrail lol).

Am trying to do a few lunges each day at home to build up a little strength inbetween gym visits.

    Cheers,

    Dollfinn!

    Hi Trish,

    Welcome to our forum!

I just tried the link and it seems to be working fine for me. What browser are you using? Sometimes we get problems with FireFox.

Re: No Equipment - Beginner 3

I am so ashamedEmbarrassed I cant even do one push up? I managed 10 sit ups wich I don't think is too bad, as I am 109 kg's at the moment. I did them yesterday and it hurts to laugh and it feels like I have been punched in the guts! I am very much a beginner and any tips on push ups would be helpful. Thanks. Trish.

They can be tough at the start. The best tip I can give is to practice most days and you'll be doing them in no time!

The best way to begin is to lay flat on the floor (face down of course!) with your hands next to your shoulders. Try to do one push up just starting from this position. Even if your body doesn't stay straight, that's fine to start with. Drop back down to the flat position and start again. Repeat as many times as you can and take as long as you'd like in between each push up.
