It all depends on your weight, fitness level, and budget. If you only plan to walk then that is fine but if you plan on running in the future I'd try foor a bigger motor. It will be more expensive but it'll be much more durable.

    hi jodie,

can i suggest you hire a treadmill first, as it gives you the option to see if it's the right one for you. a lot of places will let you hire before you buy - which is a really good option to have.

and you might not be thinking you can run yet, but i bet once you hit below 100kgs and your cardiac fitness improves, you'll be ready to start sprint running on it (even just for 20 second bursts) - plus it really helps pick up your cardio, and you can see some excellent results in weight loss doing this. running doesn't have to be about going for 10kms or even 10 minutes... definitely it's a matter of confidence & feeling comfortable on the treadmill to do so.

if you have the option see if you can get a treadmill with the polar heart rate monitor on it - it's a good guideline for where your heartrate should be working at as you walk (over 120bpm is a good guideline for weightloss)

    hope that helps

Jody, I have no doubt you'll be running on it later on. As you drop weight and increase your fitness you won't be able to help yourself!

Definitely look at hiring one as Cowgirl suggested. I did that and then bought it after the 3 months hire period. The hire costs I had paid already, came off the purchase price.

Trust me...you WILL want to run eventually, provided you keep at it.If anyone had told me a year ago that  I would be jogging for 5-10 minutes on mine, I have thought they were on drugs! Lol Which is another reason why I think hiring one is a good idea..to see if the machine suits you and does what you want it to do.

Personally, if mine had a manual incline, I'd never use it.

    Happy shopping :)

Thanks everyone for the information i will try and convince my husband to hire one to start with i know hes not going to like it much because he reckons its a waste of money to hire things you thinks you might as well go out and buy it. I will let you know how i go

trust me jodie, it's more of a waste to spend $2k on something you end up using a dozen times, all good intentions aside.
hiring it will give you an idea as to whether it is the piece of equipment you want and will use consistently.
