Re: NRMA Insurance's Biggest Loser Comp- Update

Thought it was about time I put a progress post up.

The official start date of the work comp has been delayed a couple of times.  Official kickoff was on 15 Feb.  Anyway they weighed us again at work.  In 2 weeks I gained 3.3kg to weigh in at my heaviest ever.

Well the girl running the competition goes to Weight Watchers.  She's been going for about 6 months and has lost 10kg.  So she sent us all this email on Monday about Weight Watchers.  I thought about it for an hour or so and realised I do need to go to something like that so I emailed her back.

I talked to my boss and they'll pay the first $100 towards me signing up for Weight Watchers.  Last night I went to my first meeting and I've lost .8kg since Thursday.  So now I'm back at the weight I was all those months ago when I first started losing weight.

    Weight Watchers

Believe it or not I've been sticking to the plan.

On Tuesday all through my first WW meeting all I could think of was getting a Big Mac on the way home.  Lucky for me all the McDonalds & other establishments with a drivethrough on the way home were on the wrong side of the road and I was forced to get a healthy salad Subway roll on the way home. When I got home I read all the info I'd bought home.  Before work on Wed I went shopping- for the first time in I don't know how long I did not put a tub of icecream in the shopping trolley.  There are dozens of WW branded food items now in my fridge and the crisper is full of points free vegetables.

Wednesday I stuck to my 23 points for the day. Yesterday I actually had a hard time eating all my points- I don't normally snack after dinner but I was forced to last night. And I managed to save 4 points for today- lucky as I have 2 social engagements today.

    Re: Weight Watchers

I've only been to one WW meeting so far but I'm finding that it's working.

I kinda fell off the wagon last night.  We had a work social club do which was an outing to the pub.  They'd arranged a bar tab that was supposed to go for 2 hours & cater for 50 people.  Anyway about 15 people turned up.  I'd planned to have about 3 drinks and head home.  I think I had 3 drinks going at any one time.  The free drinks were only supposed to be beer & wine then they started letting us have spirits too so three beers turned into three scotches and then some more.  Then they bought out food- Chicken Korma, Fish n Chips and Singapore noodles in those little chinese style cardboard containers.  By the time the free drinks had run out I'd discovered most of our social club committee are gay and they'd gotten a bit rowdy.  So we were all bundled into cabs and taken into the Valley to The Beat (rather grotty gay bar) where the doorman proceeded to tell me I look underage and had to get the drivers licence scrutinised before I could even walk in the door.  Anyway I wasn't having a good time so then I went and found my neighbour at the next gay pub down the road.  I ended up being abandoned by all the mates, going and getting a Big Mac from McDonalds and catching a bus home.

Anyway I'll be back on the wagon today.  I did lose count of yesterday's points at about the 3rd drink.  Oh well.

Thanks I think I needed it after Friday night.  Can report that on Saturday I have 3 1/2 points left over from my daily allowance- and I even had a glass of wine with dinner (but just one this time).

Re: NRMA Insurance's Biggest Loser Comp- Update

    nchalm20:

The girl I sit next to at work has Lymphodema- I think that's how it's spelt.  It's swelling of the leg- the blood travels down the leg and pools because the blood vessels can't pump it back up.  She also has some ulcers on her leg.  I believed her when she said a blood clot triggered it.  However, I saw a story on tv the other night that said it's a very serious side effect of obesity.  I know I sound mean but I can't help but hope it never happens to me- it's good motivation to lose the weight having to watch her suffer.

The girl I sit next to at work hasn't been in since Tuesday.  Today I found out she has another blood clot and is in hospital.  It's been a pretty good shake-up for me to do something about my own situation.

Someone even offered me cheese and crackers at work- one of my absolute favourite treats- and I found the strength to say no.  Have just had steak and vegies for dinner- in total 3 1/2 points.  I'm going to come in under my daily allowance again- and try and make up for the blowout on Friday.

Re: NRMA Insurance's Biggest Loser Comp- Update

    HiYa,

Just wanted to tell you, on light and easy one of the snacks is about 5 biscuits and a small piece of cheese. It's one of my faves too.

Maybe you could incorporate it into your daily calories or points??

    Good luck :-)

Re: NRMA Insurance's Biggest Loser Comp- Update

A row of rice crackers and a slice of 50% reduced fat cheese is around 2 points.  I can get the odd cheese & crackers in.

My big problem was yesterday's lunch had a fairly high points value and I'm aiming to come in around 2 or 3 points under my allowance each day.

Seeing how my workmate is suffering is incentive enough to stick to the plan- I so don't want to end up like that one day.

After a week on Weight Watchers

I had my second WW meeting tonight and have been on the diet for one week.  Can report in that this week I lost 2.2kg.  That is one of my biggest losses in a week that I've ever had.  There are people in TBL house that didn't lose that much this week.

Not bad considering the blowout I had on Friday night.

    Congrats on the loss!!

See even if (we) fall off the wagon it's still good to get straight back on it when we have losses like that!!!

Keep up the good work :-)

Re: After a week on Weight Watchers

    Thanks for the positive reinforcement.

Last night I told one of my friends that I'd joined WW and lost 2.2kg in my first week.  He said to me "what's brought this on? There's nothing wrong with you?"  Men!!!

I explained to him that being this big is a problem and I need to do something about it.

On another note did anyone see Today Tonight last night?  They're setting a challenge for Australians to lose 1 million kgs.  Guy Leech has written a free program you can sign up for via their website.
