Re: And a HUGE welcome to............

    Thanks everyone.

Antibiotics are working well, though both babe and I have a bit of the runs from them, but not severe.  Liam feeds well and sleeps well, though not for long lengths of time of course.  I'm marvelling at how well I'm going, feeling very confident, my clothes are swinging on me, babe seems content.  My 2yo hated the upset to his routines while I was away and stressed me out with his tiredness tantrums for a couple of days, but he's back to his usual self now.  Andy's back to work next week and Nana is going to taxi big one for school and take the 2yo for a few mornings so I can ease back into running the household.

I'm charging the batteries in the scales because the curiosity is getting to me.  I was going to wait till the six weeks were up and then look but I can feel in myself that the fluid has all but disappeared and I've got past the engorgement stage now so I'd love to see where my weight is...

    Just keep going

Thanks Alison, I'm just off the antibiotics now.  It eventually blistered and revealed the puncture hole from the bite, which looks quite savage and I never noticed being bitten at the time!  I don't know what it was, and I'm sort of glad about that.  ick.

Had check up with maternal health nurse who's very happy with us both but told me off for considering driving next week.  We'll see.

I've been supposed to be sleeping during the day when possible, but it's all been a big conspiracy and I haven't been.  Yet somehow I get through the day and I seem to remember being crankier while I was pregnant so can't be that bad.  Going to express a bottle for Andy so he can have a practice at feeding so he can do the first feed on Friday night while watching the footy and I can have a sleep for longer than two hours in one hit!!!

I got bored today and took Liam and Cameron to a nearby park.  Brisk but sunny day so was nice to get outside.  Good to get moving as I haven't done much.  Yesterday I played slow chasey with Cameron and 'copying' and 'follow the leader' with him and I was impressed with how well I'm moving.  Pregnancy is lovely but gee it's good to not be pregnant any more!!

    Re: Just keep going

Congratulations on the safe arrival of baby Liam.

I've got 6 - 8 weeks to go before I'm due. We still haven't found out if it's a boy or a girl.  My doctors have said I'm a normal pregnancy now because I've got to 32 weeks with no complications- the diabetes & blood pressure puts me in the high risk basket.  Anyway not long now.

    Re: Just keep going

Good luck with it, Nat - your baby is the most amazing person you'll ever meet!  Are the doctors happy to give you a trial of labour or encouraging a c-section?  I had pre-eclampsia with the first one and the doctors indicated a preference to caesarean but I really didn't want it.  Even though the PE settled in labour, I was fully dilated and he was stuck so I had an emergency one.  My two other children were routine elective caesars.  The elective procedure is far more civilised, the surgical team get to introduce themselves and put you at ease, whereas the emergency was quick and a bit scary.

I was a bit lopsided in the tummy after the first operation, but this time, as I was having a tubal ligation and no more children, they tidied up the scar tissue and seem to have fixed my slightly uneven tummy (only I noticed it).  It was good of them to do a bit of cosmetic work while they were there!!

Nat, I guess I'm trying to say, don't be afraid of a caesarean, I was...but it all worked out fine.  Possibly you're not fazed by it at all!

    Re: Just keep going

At this stage because I've been taking my pills, watching my diet & lost 6kg and my blood pressure and sugar is normal, it looks like they're letting me go for a natural birth.  They said the risk of complication is practically 0 because I'm more or less healthy.  The only thing they won't be letting me do is go over my due date.  Fingers crossed it all goes according to plan.

We had to watch the caesarian and epidural dvds in antenatal class.  I guess the best bit is that I'm going to have the baby at a private hospital which means I get the same midwife for the whole labour (unless there's a shift change right in the middle and the baby's a couple of hours away).  I like the idea of the 1 on 1 care- if I do have to go in for an emergency caesarian the same midwife comes in with me.   The funny thing is the two things I dislike the most are the idea of having an epidural and a caesarian.  But as the midwife said "don't get your heart set on the birth going a particular way because they never go according to plan".

    Re: Just keep going

Good luck with it, Nat.  I had no troubles with my epidural the first time and spinal blocks the other two times.  Other than taking the labour pain away, it feels like someone has placed a lovely warmed blanket across your legs, quite pleasant actually.  Still I hope it goes well for you and you can avoid those interventions.

    I MOVED TODAY!

Yes, I plugged in the tready and dusted it off.  Set up the baby monitor, my HRM and music.  I walked for 20mins at 5kph.  Avg HR 109 and Max HR 123.  It's very noticeable to me that I have very little muscle supporting my frame and joints and I've got a warm ache in the top of my hip, which a new spot.  So tomorrow I will do some strengthening exercises and stretches.  I'm not messing around with calorie intake at the moment as we're establishing lactation.  However, because we can't afford much junkfood and I knew I'd be peckish with the breastfeeding and broken sleep, so I've stocked up on good breakfast cereals to use as fast snacks.
