    Re: Just keep going

Liam's quite fantastic, actually.  He's good-humoured and mellow in our not-so-quiet house.  Nana's taken the 7yo, Lachlan, on the train into the museum today, so I've been able to clean the sink and scour the kitchen floor this morning.

My 2.5yo, Cameron, is suspected to have an autistic spectrum disorder - it's mild and subtle, not severe and obvious; so we're watching him carefully and trying to get him into an early intervention program to minimise the developmental delay.  I had an awful experience at the hairdresser with him during the week where she pretty much said that he was getting away with a tantrum and said 'the nanny' has children like this and they just need boundaries set.  I'd told her more than once what was going on with him.  Anyways, I ended up leaving in tears, not going back there again.  She didn't see that a stranger in his face with scissors might be making him slightly uncomfortable, particularly when he already has personal space issues.

It's not really a shock because I'd noticed his little oddities before, and as I said, it's mild - he'll grow to be as quirky as the rest of the population and probably have a relatively normal life and relationships (well, that's what I think at this very early stage!).  We're going about getting the help and support that we need. We have to get a chromosonal blood test and hearing test done before our next paediatrician appointment in about 7 weeks.

So, hoping to get on the tready & bike sometime today to get some 'me' time, and put together our tax stuff for the accountant.

Oh Lorna, how awful for you at the hairdressers! Which one? Did you know the Kinder in Mooroolbark, Charles St I think? is great for kids like Cameron? I have a friend who had twins, and the boy was very similar (from what I can gather as a bystander!) to how you describe Cam, and she sent him there. Happy to report he is in Prep this year with Zac and doing fabulously!

Love to you. You are a great Mum, and may Karma bite the haridresser fair and square!

    Re: Just keep going

Damn shame about the hairdresser too, because she gave me the best haircut I'd had in ages!  We're currently enrolled at the kinder in Charles St doing 2yo toddler group, I'd purposely gone there because of their EIP as I suspected something was up, but need to get on their waiting list...school hols taking forever, no-one's there atm!  It'll either be there or Irabina.  I told the lady at Irabina (no vacancy till next year which I expected) about the hairdresser and she says they have a newletter to spread who's good with impaired children.

I think it cut because at the heart of all children with a behavioural problem, is a mother that blames and doubts herself.  So thanks for the encouragement, Jane.  I got home and called Andy and he made me feel enormously better.  He mightn't be much of a handyman but he gets 10/10 for love and support!

I must add that I found Liam's smile button (you know how babies have a spot on their cheek or chin that you press or put your finger over and they smile).  It's on his chin with some tickles on the corners of his mouth and he's started goo-ing today.

    All together - say aaaahhhhhh.

    Re: Just keep going

Hi all! We didn't fall off the end of the earth, just the toilet!  We've all had gastro (except Liam - breastmilk antibodies at work) and we've recovered - still got the mountain of washing to get through, and the house looks like its been in a snow dome, shaken about, and all the toys are everywhere!  Argh, who cares - yes I'm at that point!  The 'upside' to gastro is we're picky about what we eat so just good food going in.  I suspect Cameron picked it up at the doctors surgery waiting room when I had Liam in for his immunisation shots last week.

    Hi Lorna,

What speed are you doing on the treadmill? How do you feel at the end?

    Re: Just keep going

Ray, I'm going at 5kph, I think I could get another .5 about 15-20mins in, when my movement has freed up a little..  I 'feel' good afterwards, breathing deeply and sweaty but stiffen up in when I've cooled down: in my ankles, lower back and hip which are my little trouble spots.

Having trouble getting on as frequently as I want - tried yesterday but baby woke after 5mins and I have to be on the alert for what the 2yo is up to...extra difficult with two young ones.

    Re: Just keep going

It's been an impossible dream to exercise independently with the two small ones requiring my presence pretty much full-time.  I've bid on a toddler seat for my jogger as I've been reluctant to take the baby out with the toddler running loose - I'd never forgive myself if something happened to him - so we'll try the toddler seat and then I can get to walk to/from school on dry days, providing Cam doesn't tantrum too much in it - I've heard horror stories of children overturning joggers.  It's worth a go.

Liam's sleeping 7-8 hours in one shot at night now, so I'm not so pooped by the end of the day, but not sleeping very much at all in the day making it slow going to get things done in the day.  Enjoying the phase though, I know it gets easier in some aspects and more difficult in others as they get older.

    Re: Just keep going

I'm so looking forward to 7 or 8 hours uninterrupted sleep- not that Leigh's a difficult child but he's been sick and I miss my sleep.  Leigh's decided it's playtime with mum in the middle of the night and I wake up to him looking at me from his cot giggling and wanting to be picked up.

    Re: Just keep going

Nat, cheeky monkey needs to sleep!  But I saw your other post so I understand why he's sleeping close to you at the moment.  When you're comfortable, move him to his own room and then your snoring and his chortling won't disturb either of you!

The toddler seat has been quite successful, I've been careful to take him out when he asks so he doesn't view it as a prison.  We went round the lake the other day and it was useful yesterday when I had to kill time while getting a new tyre on my car (nail in a bad spot).

I went last night and rejoined WW and all that.  There's something about meetings that always makes me feel like there's something more important I should be doing, but they are good for focus.

I'm doing the CORE part as it's basis is eating natural food to a satisfied amount, rather than Points which I found I could cheat on, ie. eat McDonalds and then nothing else, so it didn't really encourage me to make good choices - or I'd only eat 1-2 point foods all day and nothing really filling.

Did the shopping this morning and the fridge is greener and healthier than its been for a long, long time!

    Re: Just keep going

Lost 1.7kg this first week.  I've lost a lot of bloating is what I've noticed most.  I'm doing the core plan which is eat till satisfied of the basic food groups without points counting.  I like not thinking about food as a number value.  I've eaten well and so has the family, and the breastfeeding remains unchanged.  I manage to do about 3km around the house during a day according to the pedometer.  Looking forward to another healthy week.
