    So You Can't Run?

The next time you use the excuse that you can't do something, have a thought about an old friend of mine.....

A few years back he was riding his bike training for a triathlon when he was hit by a semi-trailer. He went right under it and he was pretty f***ed up. He broke many bones and was in a coma.

When he came around there was little hope of him ever being able to get out of a wheelchair.

Well recently he completed his first triathlon since the accident. He still doesn't have great use of both legs but he rode his bike with one leg, swam using his upper body, and did the run using crutches.

Just think about that for a second. Completing a run (well, kind of run..) using crutches, after a long ride and a swim. Imagine how much discomfort, pain, or negative thoughts must have gone through his head during training. How many excuses do you think he would have come up with over the past few years? Who would've blamed him if he ever gave up?

It's a pretty awesome achievement but I know this is not where his story will end.

Anyway, something to think about next time your mind tries to sabotage you!

    Ray

Bugger, I really should stop with all the b*tchin.

Good for him completing a triathlon.  It must of been rewarding to complete that considering all the issues he has had to overcome.

Farrrrrr out! What an inspiration Ray!

It must be so heart warming to see him achieving such things after all he has been through!

I'm with Jen..I should stop bitching about the small things that I conveniently use as an excuse!

You and me both. I've haven't been running much because I've had aniggling knee pain. No real excuse is it?

I've just been chatting with him and his goal is to represent Australia at the World Championships in 2009.

    I'll keep you all informed

I thought of this guy at 6.50pm. I had done no exercise, and was thinking about how tired I was, and almost decided to not bother. 4km's and 40 minutes later, I got off Trev, and felt bloody magnificent!Walk1

This makes me view the world in someone elses eye- when you really get into it you realise how it must be for people with disabilities that are unable to use their body in ways that we take for granted. After I visualise how it must feel I really appreciate that I can run and jump. I have no limits at all. I feel like using my body more and I enjoy the walks, runs and exercise. I know how lucky I am, and I make the most of it.
