    Re: Week 7

Lygon St has a few shops, but not heaps, its mostly food (restaurants galore!). If you're staying in the city and have limited travel options Queen Vic Market is good (although not known for quality). There is a new DFO (direct factory outlets) at Southern Cross train station (Spencer St), haven't been there yet but the one at Moorabin is good.

It all depends on what you're looking for. Fashion labels, quirky stuff, cheap bargins????

    Re: Week 7

Will be shopping for anything and everything.  I am staying in the city / Fitzroy.  Have booked into a place that's a backpackers / hotel called The Nunnery.  Have heard it's got a good name...it's a renovated heritage listed convent hence the name.

    Re: Week 7

    Hi Nat,

Well you're certainly in a good location. Across the road from the Museum and Exhibition Gardens, just down the road to the city (trams at the door) and the other way to Brunswick St/Johnston St area - great food area and good non-mainstream shopping area. If you're into live music its also the best place in town to be - heaps of pubs with original music on most nights of the week. I don't know anyone who has stayed at the Nunnery in years so couldn't comment on how good it is.

There are quite a few factory outlets in the Fitzroy/Collingwood area, so it could be worth investing in a factory outlet guide to Melbourne (I think there's one called Pamm's guide????) to snap up some great bargains. There's a Taking Shape (larger size women's clothes) outlet off Gipps St, heaps of shoe, regular clothes, bedding/home places around there. Another area worth a day trip for bargain hunting is Bridge Rd in Richmond (although these days there are more bargains to be had on Swan St than Bridge Rd due to the Bridge Rd shops now stocking more current season's things than cheap stuff from previous seasons. Also means there is a bigger range of stuff to choose from though - so there are positives!). My Size have a factory outlet on Church St (at the bottom of Bridge St) which sometimes is really great and sometimes really isn't!

I'm sure you'll have a great weekend regardless!

    Re: Week 7

Thanks for the info!  Am planning on it being a fantastic 9 days actually.  There's this fantastic Melbourne based U2 cover band I'm hoping is playing in a pub somewhere while I'm down that way.  Definitely on the to-do list.

The main thing on my to-do list is to exclude plus size shops before I land in Melbourne.  Oh and one other thing- I will be turning 30 while I'm in Melbourne so I will be celebrating it in some form or another.  I'm hoping Melbourne puts on a good show for Australia Day because that's the actual day of my 30th.

Unfortunately for them my parents are going to have to feel rather old and sad all on their own and my best mates will have to put on a bbq when I return with gifts.

    Week 12 weighin

Well have finally made it to the 3 month mark on Weight Watchers.  Total loss in 12 weeks is 9kg.  1 kg to go to 10kg; 3.1kg to go till I get my 10% weight loss.  11.5 kg to go and I'll be double figures instead of 3 figures on the scales.  44kg to go until healthy weight range.

As for the comp at work, out of 18 people who agreed to have a go, only two of us have lost weight at all.  I think we may need to redo the comp and get people's butts into action.

That is a great loss, isn't it? Do you feel the difference in yourself?

Great to see your workmates so motivated! LOL!

    Re: Week 12 weighin

I can't believe how much of a difference 9 kgs have made.  I struggle to carry around anything that weighs that much and to think I was carrying around that much extra weight.

    Re: Week 12 weighin

This week at WW they announced that the meeting I go to is moving locations and changing times.  It's not going to fit in with work anymore.  Looks like WW is trying to increase their bottom line with the move in venue / time.  There's another girl from work who goes to the same meeting.  Her solution is "Well I guess I won't be going to meetings as often anymore."  My thought is I can find another meeting to go to.

Weight watchers has also decided to make us pay for meetings even if we can't attend.  You only get to skip 2 meetings a year without having to pay.  So all the more reason to find another meeting to go to.

    Re: Week 12 weighin

Doesn't seem fair that if you can't make it you still have to pay for it.

Did they say why they were going to be moving and changing times? I know you said something about  increasing their bottom line but I don't understand what that means (maybe I'm having a blonde moment- too many pure blondes that is LOL)

    Re: Week 12 weighin

The venue they are moving to is cheaper to hire each week.  That means the Leader & Weight Watchers make more money without charging more money for meeting fees.  They felt they needed to do something to increase their profits as the number of people attending meetings each week is declining and people are objecting to paying for meetings they don't attend.

    WW update

Aside from the news of the meeting move last week at weight watchers, I managed to gain 1.2kg.  The good news is this week I lost most of what I gained last week.

I could make excuses for the weight gain but I'm not going to.  I know why it happened and I'm getting back on track.

On a more positive note last weekend I also went into a normal skinny person's shop and bought 2 pairs of shorts that fit.  And they weren't from the larger sizes section.

    Re: WW update

Woo hoo to fitting into shorts from the skinny shop.  Keep that in mind when you want to make bad decisions, how it felt to fit into those shorts and even better, the future, how it will feel to fit into skinny jeans and then start wearing a belt (a concept I had forgotten about until recently).

Keep going and good luck with WW.
