Re: Is there a difference? Do they both still exist

The free version is a very, very, VERY, cut down version of the the real thing. It's something we've been working on for a while, and whilst it's currently usable, we won't be marketing it until we make it a little easier to use. Currently theres too many options so I just want to make it a little easier.

It is very smart software though and everyone I show has been impressed (primarily if they understand software!).

So yes, it does still exist but we don't currently have it for sale!

    Thursday 24th January

    Food Diary:

Breakfast: 3 weetbix with skim milk & honey                                                                              7am

Snack:       1 slice toast with extra light philly and tuna                                                               9am

Lunch:      Chicken & Tarragon Meatloaf sandwich with tomato, cheese and lettuce          2pm

    Snack:       peach                                                                                                                                 11am
Dinner:      ½ plate of vegetables with meat pie and home made chips                                    7.00pm

    Snack:       Fruit                                                                                                                                    9pm

    Water:      not enough

Man I felt stuffed today.  Both kids were up early and Ethan, a couple of times through the night too.  Not to mention that last nights quick walk round the block with the dog turned into a full blown power walk on my favourite hilly spot.  Is the part of a walk you hate the most the part that will burn the most energy.  I think so, because that last hill really s*@ks.

Anyway, I couldn’t get a nap through the day but when DH came home I got a couple of hours much to his disgust because his second-hand new bike was dropped off today and he just wanted to get out and play.

In hindsight I am happy with the day and felt my portion sizing was really good over the whole day.  I’m trying to incorporate more protein into my days and have found it really does stop the hungry feelings.  I also read that having a low GI carb option before bed the night before helps process the protein in the morning better.

As I’ve mentioned elsewhere I heard a quote on ‘You Are What You Eat’ that I liked:

‘Exercise needs to become as routine as breathing in peoples lives’

It’s an interesting thought and sound very sensible.  It’s not normal to just sit and need to rest for hours at a time.  Sitting doesn’t fix tired (mental exhaustion) only sleeping fixes tired.  Sitting just gives the body a break, some respite it really doesn’t help the brain at all.  I don’t need more energy (food) I need to process it effectively and I need to get some uninterrupted sleep and that will come when Ethan can sleep through.   BRING IT ON!!!!!!!

    Monday 28th January

Well over the past few days I've dropped of the planet again or at least not posted any personal journal since Thursday.  Things have been good.  Friday morning I walked for half an hour with my MP3 player.  I've been eating ok.  Went to the movies yesterday and had a small pizza (ham & pineapple) and popcorn and fat free soft serve but other than that most meals have been nutritious and portion sizes have been good too.

I went to TOWN for weigh-in again tonight and have lost another 500g yippee and then went for 3 laps around Sumsion Gardens (about an hour) with my nextdoor neighbour.

I've been spending my computer time updating my resume and applying for a job, not that I'm too keen to start back to work but its time to start thinking about it again I guess.

    Re: Monday 28th January

How are you going with getting a full nights sleep?  I'm not looking forward to that again!  My first didn't sleep through till he was 18 months and I was getting up excessively for him (5-10 times) and returned to full-time work - very exhausting time for me.  But the second one slept from 8 weeks.  My fingers are crossed that number three will be like number two.  I think it really helped having him sleep well away from us so I didn't respond to every whimper in the night and he resettled himself, if it wasn't time for a feed.  With the first one, I think we went wrong with the breastfeeding and he wasn't getting enough, but the broken sleep pattern was established and requiring mummy to feed or resettle back to sleep was the rod I unknowingly made for my own back.

Anyhow, I know how easy it is to substitute eating for energy when tired for some real sleep.  For me it was sugar laden things, like toast and jam - not useful fuel.

Another suggestion, try to turn off your internal mummy radar when you sleep and get a deep nourishing sleep if you can.  Easier said than done, I know!  Good luck!

    Re: Monday 28th January

Hey Loll, thanks for the tips.  Still no luck on the full nights sleep.  He's usually pretty good but just over the last week or so I'm getting the feeling that some of the waking in the night isn't food related.  Sometimes if I can get DH to go to him, he can get him back to sleep pretty quickly, but if I go DS always thinks he wants a feed... its the smell I guess.  So the time may be coming for DH to do some overnight shifts hehehe ... poor him, not.

I'd love some more tips on turning off the mummy radar.  It really gives me the irrits sometimes, like when the kids aren't even in the house and I think I hear them crying.  We had no. 1 child in the bedroom with us when she was first born and when we moved her out we all slept better but I think I've tuned in to no. 2 in his room at the distance it is now, so if I'm to tune out at this stage he'll have to go out in the loungeroom. hehehe [yawn]

Jo, I have 3 cherubs, 9.5, 8 and 5.5. The only REAL way I have found to turn off the radar involves drinking LOTS of alcohol........................................

    Thursday 31st January

Oh my... can you believe that its the end of January already.  I guess all those mothers with school age kids can because they are free again.

DS is getting stonger every day and is starting to pull himself forward on the floor.  It definately won't be long before he adds in some feet and leg action and starts to crawl.  DD is turning 3 soon and is getting more and more cheeky and defiant every day.  She just finished telling me she likes it when I get cranky.  Everyone I talk to says she's just testing me... My question is 'Am I passing or failing these tests???'  mmmmmmm Not sure.

Anyway, I've just started Day 2 of the week 4 menu plan from the CSIRO cook book.  Yesterday went really well.  I guess my main reason for trying these plans is to learn to cook and to learn to menu plan a little too I guess.  I think if I can learn to enjoy cooking and get more practiced at it then I will start to overcome that 'Its all too hard' mentality.

I went walking with my nextdoor neighbour again last night for an hour which was great.  She's a great walking partner because we both agree that we have to walk like we've got somewhere to go and we're late.  I've never really had anyone to walk with before that I can talk to the whole way round without any awkward silences.  So this is really nice.

Turning off the Mummy Radar??? any tips appreciated

Oh Jane... I wish they'd make some low cal alcohol that's not wine or beer.  Perhaps a Kaluha one.  But I definately can understand the practical advantages of alcohol.

    Tuesday 5th February

I'm a bit confused as to how to deal with menu planning.

Over the last 4 months I've been having quite good success without menu planning.  But, I've found that it can be a bit of a pain when I go to do the shopping and if I'm going to cook dinner and don't have ingredients or can't think of anything to cook thats not to hard or take very long.

Anyway, last week I tried menus from the CSIRO Wellbeing Diet book to try to learn a few more things about cooking and also to be sure to have everything I needed in the pantry.

I don't like having things really planned out.  I find that when its planned out I'm more likely to say 'I dont want to eat that I'll have .....' something unhealthy or too much of whatever eg. fruit.  I will eat whatever is on the list even if I'm not hungry and I'll eat what I feel like even if its not on the list.

I wonder if it is just because of planning for the whole week.  I reckon it would take alot more work to do it every day but I would have more chance of planning for what I feel like.  Or would just planning the evening meal work best???  I need to learn more about cooking so I can think of more variety for lunch.  That's when I've usually got the least amount of time, am out at the shops, and don't want the same thing every time.

Anyway, I'll keep pondering.  Any thoughts are welcome

    Re: Tuesday 5th February

    Hi,

I find that I can't plan for the week either.  Its too hard but perhaps if you make sure that you have the ingredients on hand so you make whatever you like.  Alternatively, perhaps plan to have a least 3 certain meals and work around the rest.  Not sure if this helps or not.

Anyway, for a bit of variety, try the following.  BTW, I don't like to cook but can I suggest making this.  Really easy to make and much better than the pasta's you buy.

Get a packet of Gow Gee from the referigerated section of your supermarket (normally near the latino pasta's etc) to make your own version of pasta.  Now this is basically wontons and you can fill it up with whatever you like such as pumpkin, sweet potato, ricotta & herbs, mashed peas, minced pork.

So grab the Gow Gee (round), fill with a tablespoon of whatever ingredients you like), then run your fingers along the edge with water and fold to seal.  Make sure there is no air pockets otherwise the filling will come out.

    Hope you like.

    Jen
