Re: put weight on this week

Thanks Jude for stopping by and keeping me going today!  I'm feeling a bit better today.  I was able to run a little at training by pushing myself for three quarters of a lap and then jogging for the rest of it.  It seemed to help!

It really helps to have everyone here supporting and keeping me going whilst I'm having a bad period.  I really do appreciate it!  It also motivates me hearing about everyone else's struggles and achievements!  Thanks to everyone.

Re: put weight on this week

A gain is frustrating when you are trying so hard.  But I think everyone does plateau a little bit at some point and you need to remember just how far you have come  - which is a very very long way, just look at your weight loss and your remarkable gym program.  Maybe you need a little break from your intense training - I think if the body is worked too hard it goes into like "famine" mode and wants to retain all your body fat making it harder to burn calories - this is from the caveman days!  Maybe by breaking things up a bit it might help.

When you plough on through this rough patch, you will come out stronger then ever before and I am sure you will be lighter too!

Re: put weight on this week

try not to be too hard on yourself, maybe you need to take a day or 2 off to allow your body to play catch up a little and then get back into it.  our bodies are bitey back stabby things, as marissa said sometimes it can go into * starvation mode*  and tries to do its best to "save you".

hopefully you will come out the other side of this, healthier and stronger( and lighter)  i know how disappinting it can be to not see the scales move, or worse move up. stay positive

    hugs angel

Re: put weight on this week

thanks guys, I really appreciate the support!

I did my weights session with the cardio and I'm feeling a bit better..although my calories burnt is seriously going down!  I'll keep up the intensity until Saturday (my weigh in day) and see how I go.  I'm hoping I've lost some, otherwise I'll have to look at my routine!

Re: put weight on this week

    Hi Mel,

Good on you for working through this slump.

How are you measuring your calories burnt?

Have you taken into consideration that your body is becoming more efficient as you lose weight.  When I first got my HRM that calculates calories I was churning through 750+ for a step class, now 10 kgs down I only use up 450 on a good day - depressing huh!

Have you scaled back your daily calories based on your current weight?  It might be an idea to have another look at what you are putting into your body rather than focussing on increasing your exercise - you could end up exhausted.

Re: put weight on this week

    Thanks guys,
I have a Polar F11 (bought it before the BL show) to measure my calories burnt.  Sometimes it's not reading very well though.  I don't think my calories are too bad as I tend to be below the 1200 calorie range a day - which I think is well below for my weight.  I was told at the start something like 1600 calories.  But I think I might start this back up again, just to make sure that it's not that that's killing my weight loss!

Oh and Jude,  I posted on your journal that I reckon you're ready for the gym... :D

Re: put weight on this week

Hey Mel,  I got an F11 for my birthday last year and I love it!  Do you update your weight each week to get an accurate burn number?  I forgot for the first 5kg and got a real shock when I did get 'round to it.

Start keeping an eye on your calorie intake again for a couple of weeks, re-calculate your BMR for your current weight - you may not be eating enough which can do more harm than good.

I tried dropping to 1250 cals. a day for a while but I find that 1400 is a better option for me with the amount of exercise that I do - any lower and I don't have enough energy and am prone to binges ..... my major problem.  It may take me a bit longer to reach my goal weight, but I'm not in that much of a hurry.

Re: put weight on this week

    Thanks Harri,

I do update my weight on the burn number, after I forgot as well and the first few weeks too! :D

I just got calculated my BMR and it came in at 1701.20. Doesn't this mean that I have to eat less than this to lose weight though?

just did boxing and am I arms and hands shaking from the hard workout...I only bought 500 calories though :(

Re: put weight on this week

OK - so if 1kg of fat = 7700calories you need to create a defeceit of approx. 1100 calories per day to lose a kilo a week.

Your formula could look like this:

    food in:    1400 calories

    less BMR:  1700 calories

    less exercise: 800 calories

    leaves you with -1100 calories.

If you use this as a base you should continue to lose at a steady pace - unfortunately the closer you get to your goal weight the harder you need to work to burn those calories up.

I can't fit any more dedicated exercise time into my schedule at the moment, so I'm working on grabbing as much incidental exercise as I can ........ though the star jumps at the ironing board this afternoon were just to keep warm.  lol

Re: put weight on this week

    Thanks Harri,

It's all so confusing with the BMR and stuff.  I've started writing my calories down today to work out exactly what I'm eating and I'll have to find some way of working out how many calories I burn tonight at hockey!

Yes all the incidental exercise helps!  I always forget about that! :D

Re: put weight on this week

    thanks morgan,
I actually bought the software for home too...but haven't used it properly.  I guess I just have to get into the habit of doing it! :D

had training last night and worked extremely hard...I had shakes from boxing and they got worse at training...so I had a bit of a sugary drink which seemed to help.

As a warmup, I did a fair bit of sprinting and situps before stretching up.  Then we did more sprinting, which I started feeling sick in (did too much) and then into goalie work.

Oh, and btw, I figured out why my calories have been so low when exercising.  My polar locked up and needed to be reset and it defaulted to a 'male'.  That sure explains a lot.  I've been trying to compensate for the low calories by doing more work and feeling exhausted!  So I've definitely been working too hard lately (including yesterday!).

I'm really feeling it today!  One hand is still shaking a little, my sciatica is playing up from the running and my foot is a bit tender!  I do have Osteo today, so she'll work on my sciatica!

    What's on today?
Weights and cardio session, however I'll take it easy on the cardio and see how I go with everything else!
