    Re: How are you going?

It's interesting that some women end up slimmer, long term, after having kids (not me - bummer!) There's a mum at school who I knew as a teenager, and she was always "solid", not really fat, or anything. I met her again a couple of years ago, and couldn't believe it, she's just so much smaller, and she said it just sort of happened after having kids (she has 2) In fact the other day I saw her at school, and thought she looked a little bit too skinny!!! Lucky her.......   Alison

    Perhaps her husband nags her?

    Re: How are you going?

My partner thinks it's fantastic I'm losing weight while the baby's still healthy..he's even losing weight too.  He's got type 2 diabetes as well and finds it hard to manage on his own (typical tradesman- doesn't like to read a brochure the doctor gave him).  He's quite happy for me to plan all the meals and eat what I make for him.

    Maternity leave Day #1

Well today's my first day at home on maternity leave.  It's a little strange not going to work- I can't remember the last time I didn't have somewhere to be.  I don't feel unwell but at the same time I'm starting to realise how hard it's been the last couple of weeks to get out of bed and go to work.  I think I'll be enjoying the rest over the next few weeks- I'm hoping to have 2 weeks of end of semester study & exams for uni and then 3 or 4 weeks to put my feet up before the little one arrives.

    Re: Maternity leave Day #1

Strangely enough I don't miss work.  I'm finding that there aren't enough hours in the day to do what I want to do!

I had my checkup with the doctor this morning- with six weeks to go I'm still on fortnightly visits.  Baby's doing fine & so am I.  My blood pressure and sugar levels are still under control which means baby will be coming on the due date rather than early.

    Re: Maternity leave Day #1

    I'm due 25th July...6 weeks from today.

I'm going to check out the local pool in the next week or so.  They have a gentle aqua aerobics class for mums with new babies- baby goes in the pool with mum.  The class is designed so baby gets a swimming lesson and mum gets some exercise.  It looks like a good way to fill in a couple of hours each week while I'm home.  Winter's not really here yet- still 26 degrees through the day.  It'll be getting warmer again by the time baby's 6 weeks old and ready to go to the pool.

    Re: Maternity leave Day #1

We haven't found out if the baby's a boy or girl- we'll just see who arrives on the day.  Not long now- we've waited this long another 6 weeks won't hurt.

Am just thankful all's healthy at the moment- my boss's wife is due 3 days after me with their first baby and it looks like she might have to go in for a caesarian next week.  Another workmate's wife had an emergency caesarian 3 weeks ago.  A third workmate's wife had twins by caesarian through the week- she's been in hospital for a month.  All the way along I've been the high risk and most likely to have complications and it looks like I'll be the the one to come out the other end the most healthy of all.  Strange.

    Maternity leave...week 2

Looks like baby's going to be here much sooner than 25 July.

The doctor called this morning about a blood test I had yesterday. Looks like pre-eclempsia's going to be an issue.  I start steroids tomorrow to help the baby's lungs develop...the doctor wants the baby out.

    Re: Maternity leave...week 2

You may well have bubs by the end of the week mate - my vague memory of that stuff is that even one day of steroids helps boost lung development.

Sending you loads of love for a safe (and fast-growing!!) period ahead.
