    Re: Friday?

Yeah I think I have had a good run, which is nice. I hope it stays that way! I see my surgeon in 9 days - next Wednesday - to talk about problems and moving onto mushies.

Yep, I had laparascopic surgery, four small scars and one big one. Little if any abdominal pain so far today - just feel bloated. Shoulder pain is coming and going. AND I woke up and my first thought was "where's my coffee?"!! I don't want any food, but coffee would be really nice!! So that's brewing on the bench now :)

I got a phone call at 11pm last night telling me that while I was in hospital my car was stolen and totalled, so that's definitely a royal pain in my ar&e. So I guess I'll be spending some time over the next week or so looking for a new car so I can get to work once I'm finally given the ok! In the meantime it's the hard life of curling up in front of So You Think You Can Dance from last night and getting all flustered over 22-year-old Henry.... is that wrong of me?! LOL

    Re: Friday?

I'm so glad to hear it all went well - have been wondering how you're travelling! Speaking of travelling - what a bummer about your car!!! Hopefully it will work in your favour, and you'll get a better one! Sometimess I think it's better if they totally wreck it than if they only partially wreck it, and you end up having an expensive repair bill! I don't watch SYTYCD, but I did watch a bit one night (when they'd advertised all week that someone was dancing to Coldplay!!!) and is it Henry that's the elf on The Fairies dvds...or is his name Rhys? Not sure, but I saw whoever it is, and thought "Hmm....sure I've seen him on one of M's dvds" , so I checked, and I was right - he plays the elf!!!!! Anyway, hooe your recovery keeps speeding along! Alison

    Re: Friday?

Hey Alison, Thanks for the thoughts :) Yeah, I'm more annoyed about the car than anything else - but yes, we should get a better car. The one that was stolen was a 1986 model, so we'll get something more recent - it just means a loan for a car, which we're not thrilled about. But a 'new' used car will be nice :)

Henry isn't the one from The Fairies, Rhys is. And I will just come clean and say it's depressing that I know that, because I have never even heard of The Fairies! I only know this because I had a look at the SYTYCD site.....  http://dance.ten.com.au/contestants.htm The problem with being on sick leave when I'm not at death's door I'm afraid....

    Re: Friday?

I am in some pain today - I think I may have overdone it. I spent this morning car shopping with DH and the two babies so I was already feeling pretty dodgy by early afternoon. Then we went grocery shopping on the way home and I pushed the trolley a little bit at the start, then lifted some 4L bottles of juice out of the trolley onto the conveyer belt at the checkout. I had to go straight to bed when I got home because the pain was so bad. It's almost as bad again now that I'm up again - it's a bit like gall pain actually, burning tight feeling across my back and below my ribs - plus shoulder pain. But I'm not sleepy and lying in bed staring at the ceiling is SO boring!!!!! So I'm just going to see how I go. I've mixed some panadeine in with some apple juice so I hope that helps. And, on the up side, we did manage to find a car - a 2002 Toyota Echo. Beats the 1986 Corolla that was totalled! So now we just need to wait for the RACV inspection on Monday, but if that's ok then we'll get the car next week, so that's a load off in terms of having the transport; not so much in terms of needing to come up with the money though!! As for the rest of the night, I need to find something liquid to have for dinner and then I'll curl up in front of the tv for more fun murder mayhem with NCIS and Women's Murder Club :)

    post op

Getting the balance between activity and suffering can be a challenge.

I will suggest you endurance will be quite modest to start with so put yourself in a position that you can stop if you need to.

Remember it is called sick leave not holidays.

    Re: Friday?

please don't forget that you do need time to heal - it might not seem like a big operation because you're not cut from one end to the other, but there's layers of skin, tissue & muscle that have been sliced a little, as well as a major organ, that need to settle and heal.

with the shoulder tip pain, buscopan was the greatest source of relief - pop 2 of those babies & lay down flat - seems to help the pain pass quickly

luv kaz (veteran of more operations than she cares to think about)

    Minus 2.8

Down 2.8kgs since the surgery a week ago. Would have liked more, but it's ok. I have had lots of icecream and frozen yogurt so it's not surprising!

Feeling much better today - I actually woke up feeling 'normal'! I think I'll take full advantage of the drugs today though.... I really don't like pain!

    Re: Minus 2.8

    Nice loss.

I thought it was a temperature originally.

It took a long time for me to recover completely from surgery.

However I did get an infection.

    Re: Minus 2.8

Hey, I'd take 2.8kg in a week any day - that's great! And once you ease up on the ice cream & frozen yoghurt, you'll be flying along! Glad to hear you're feeling more normal, too - that's always a good thing!!! Alison

    Re: Minus 2.8

Thanks Don and Alison :)  I know I should be more excited... I look at some of the people who have been banded and lost 13 kgs in 3 weeks and I want to be one of them!! But realistically I know it's crazy to look at other peoples' losses - cos I'm not them! So am coming around to feeling better about the loss :)

Now for a slightly longer post: Day 7 post banding and I have some discomfort which I realised last night is actually the band itself - I got out my anatomica book last night and realised the band is much more central than I thought it would be, and realised it's exactly where the discomfort is.

Last night I ate a sausage - a whole sausage! Chewed the hell out of it but had no problems whatsoever. Nonetheless decided I should stick to fluids since I'm only one week banded so for breakfast this morning I made myself an OF shake - and couldn't finish it because it's just so awful and I'm so over the taste of the OF. I just poured most of it down the sink.

Slept without a pillow supporting my wounds last night, woke up naturally at 6am just in time for my babies to call my DH to get them up, and stayed in bed while he got him and the kids ready .... the bliss :D

Haven't had any shoulder pain at all, have spent the morning tidying the house (no effort, just moving pieces of paper from one place to another!) and doing the dishes, even brought in the washing which is sitting on the couch waiting for me to fold it, and made an apple & cinnamon slice which is now in the oven.

I'm surprised and happy that I am feeling more or less like I was before, in just a week!

    Re: Minus 2.8

Thanks AK :) I had an appointment with the surgeon yesterday and kind of expected a fill but didn't get one - he just checked the stitches. He told me my first fill will be in about three weeks ~ I just need to make the appointment. I also have an appointment with a dietician tomorrow. Weight today same as last week.

    Re: Minus 2.8

That's good about visiting a dietician, I'm sure something useful will come out of that.  Let us know how it goes.

    Re: Minus 2.8

I thnk that is also excellent. I imagine it would be very important to get nutrition right, given the decreased amount you can eat!
