    Re: Gastric Bypass

Loads of support from my Husband - he came with me to my appointments with the surgeon.  He doesn't have a great amount of knowledge about dieting due to not ever being seriously overweight so he can be a bit of a saboteur, but I think I am slowly educating him.

Have booked my holidays at work for my surgery.  I only had three weeks of leave saved up, but may need to be off for five.  Plan to grovel to be allowed to work in Head office for a couple of weeks so that I won't go broke.  So happy to be away from work for a while, though have so much to do in the meantime.

Hurt my ankle last weekend so not much exercise done - really annoyed, but will get back into it tomorrow at gym.  Am giving in to some junkfoods at the moment because I know I will not be able to tolerate them after surgery, but am reigning this in because I don't want to gain back my recent weight losses.

Not much else to tell at the moment.

    Re: Gastric Bypass

While I don’t know your working arrangements it would be nice to think this would qualify as sick leave.

But if you are casual that changes things.

Anybody who does some maths soon realises that the loading for being casual is not really that good.

    Optifast/slim Hell!!

Yesterday I started the optislim shakes in preparation for my surgery.  Thank goodness I only have to do it for two weeks!!!!!  I had the crappest day - it started off ok, I thought I'm handling this all rather well.  Then I got to work - I was so hungry, tired, woozy, worn-out and bleuch.  I think it may have had a lot to do with blood sugars going crazy and adjusted my insulin last night.  I still have an upset stomach, but that may be due to lots of artificial sweetener from diet soft drink and loads of diet jelly.  I have also developed a sore back which is crazy because I have done nothing to agravate it.

Today I am feeling a bit better, bit more positive but still having trouble with a tummy upset and frequent trips to the loo.  I have three more shifts at work, then three days off.  I am trying so hard not to obsess about food but don't have the energy to do much and get out to take my mind off it.

Anywho, looking forward to the big day, and sooooo looking forward to some time off work.

    Re: Optifast/slim Hell!!

The shakes diet is getting easier, and quite pleased that I have lost about 4 kgs already - maybe more since I hadn't weighed myself since the end of Feb, and sure I had put on weight with my pre-shake diet junkfood binge.  I am now able to weigh on my scales at home - was too heavy before!!!

Have now started my three days off, but my usual lunches out are out of the question, shopping is boring because I am not buying any clothes at present, and petrol is too dear to go for a nice long drive.......  I'm sure I will think of something to do, but I am so enjoying a nice rest this morningWeee.

    Re: Optifast/slim Hell!!

I didn’t find it too bad but I did do 6 months on the stuff.

I have had it described as opti-yuck

    Re: Optifast/slim Hell!!

Yeah, I would agree with the Opti-yuck lable!! I had real problems sticking to it prior to my surgery - apart from the fact it was over Easter and family was down and they don't know about my surgery! I reached the point where just the thought of it would make my throat close up, so I had days where I didn't have it at all, I would just eat loads of vegies and stay below 800 cals. That helped me enormously. I don't know if you're *allowed* to do that - but I did it, and I still had my surgery!!

I broke my bum - ouchy!!

Last Sunday I managed to do some damage to my bum by having a fall in the shower and landing right on my coccyx (sp??).  I gave in and went to the Doctors yesterday because it dawned on me that I would soon be lying in a hospital bed and in a good deal of pain from stomach and backside.  Have had two IF electrode thingy treatments which have worked a tiny bit, but am still so sore[:'(].  I hope they give me lots of pain meds and a donut to sit onJumping1 MMMMMMMMMMMM Dooooonnnnuuuuts (having a Homer-Moment).

The "shakes thang" is getting easier - have cravings for junk food still, but I don't have the energy to act on them.  Have saved heaps of money from not eating out or buying snacky foods.  Anywho, going to rest my broken A$$ - the computer chair is so uncomfortable. No

Sorry to hear about the fall.

I suppose the cup half full logic would suggest that you were planning to have a period of rest for the next few weeks any how.

Hope Saturday goes smoothly and you have a trouble free run.

As a fellow sufferer, I am BEGGING you to get into a chiropractor ASAP!!!!! I suffered for years,. and ignored all suggestions that a chiro could help, but finally caved. and OMG, I have almost no trouble now, and if it plays up, I am off for a quick adjustment and things are great again. Of course, my GP was very reluctant to suggest a chiro, in fact it was me who broached the topic. It is something I am eternally glad I did! PLEASE think about it!

    I'm Back!

Had my Gastric Bypass done last Saturday, and escaped from the hospital yesterday morning.

I feel good, tiny bit sore but my "bullet holes" are healing nicely.  Have not had any issues, everything went well and is continuing to do so.  The only problem I suffered is some really nasty headaches and nausea whilst in hospital - mostly due to the anasthaetic.  The headaches, I reckon, were not helped by the saline they pumped into me because the day they stopped doing that my headaches disappeared.  Could only be coincidence, but that's what I put it down to.

Have not had any problem eating my liquid-type diet so far and am enjoying some different flavours now that I'm out of hospital.  The hospital food wasn't that bad but it was monotonous.

Anywho, can't think of anything else to say at the moment.

    Re: I'm Back!

Great to hear that the operation went well.

I assume by the bullet holes that you had a laparoscopic operation.

Don’t be a martyr when it comes to pain relief.

    Bad Gout!

Does anyone have a good cure for gout?  I have suffered the worst gout ever since last Sunday - It wasn't so bad, but monday it got really bad in my left foot, and attacked my right food. It has been really painful throbbing during the night, hard to walk on.  It is remarkably better this morning, but still sore.  I have been trying to flush out my system with lots of water, and have been walking around, but I have never had it last so long.

Other than that I am fine.  Feel pretty tired.  Went out shopping yesterday and after about an hour and a half had to come home and have a sleep.  I'll get thereStick out tongue
