    changing bad habits

    Hi, I have been drinking beer and I'm trying to change my bad habits and get in shape.

    Now I will be honest and say I'm not going to give up alcohol 100% but I will cut down and need some beer replacement suggestions!

    uh... water?

    instead of the beer, it might be more about changing the situation where you drink beer?

    I must admit the drinking and alcohol thing is a culture of its own and there can be enormous pressure to conform with certain “cultural norms”.

     

    To find something better for you should be easy.

     

    Diet soft drinks would work if water is too healthy and new age for your peer group.

     

    By the name are you involved in the transport industry?

     

    Certainly in Australia the laws on alcohol consumption and driving heavy vehicles are very strict.

     

    Perhaps this reason alone is a good reason to abstain from alcohol except for very special occasions.

    I agree water should definately be incorporated into your day more.  I know if you're anything like I was before trying to lose weight you probably drink next to no water at all.  But I also will say diet drinks will be ok for a bit of flavour every now and then, but take care not to swap wholey and soley to these as there are things in them that people question such as aspartame (an artificial sweetener).  I think most of us have heard about the 'diet coke corrodes your stomach' myth etc.  Mythbusters did do a test show on it but I cant remember what they decided.  Perhaps thats just selective memory.

    I remember that Mythbusters.  Coke was best for cleaning chrome.  It doesn't rot your gut.  I recall a coin test, a piece of meat, a tooth, and engine degreaser test but that's about it.  Amazing how the power of suggestion is more powerful than the facts - it's the keystone for the media.

    Beer is awful for bloating the tummy out on men.  Perhaps reduce the nights spent out if drinking is social (one night a week - too blooming expensive anyway).  If at home, every second drink is a water.

    My DH is a driver, he's switched to Zero from Coke (which amazed me) and stopped the coffee scrolls and lost about 12kgs.  He's put back on about 2kgs just recently but he's got a handle on it.  We hardly ever drink these days though, it's a luxury.

    Thanks. Yes I am in the transport industry in the US-we have very strict rules to follow.

     I do drink water, sounds like stopping the beer and maybe a glass of wine with dinner would be better?

    Any input on wine?

    In the long term alcohol of any form needs to be restricted to seriously loose weight.

     

    There are only modest (or no) health benefits for alcohol.

     

    It may seem surprising but after a wile you don’t miss it.

    Most of the gentlemen beer drinkers I know, can put away beer after beer.  You may find a wine is really nice with dinner, and that you don't feel as tempted to consume as much.  Give it a try!  As you know moderation is the key.

    And watch out for that extra nibbling of nuts and chips etc when you have a drink - that's were calorie forgetfulness happens most.

    If you ask me, the one thing that you can do is reduce your beer drinking by a certain amount each day...One day it will automatically stand at 0.. Smile ..>Again take help of online rehabs, they can help you in reducing your addiction...
