    Run For The Kids

Just wondering if any Melbourne people are dong this year's Run For The Kids on March 30? I did it 2 yrs ago , and it was great , apart from the Domain Tunnel bit, which I didn't enjoy b/c I don't like enclosed spaces with that many people in them!!! I'm not doing it this year, b/c I just don't feel "running fit" - slack, I know, and also, b/c it's in the middle of the school hols, so we might be away. Anyone else doing it? Alison

    Re: Run For The Kids

    Hi Ali,

Run to the G is having a name change this year and will be known as Run Melbourne presented by The Age.   It's June 22.

Not for me this year, obviously, but next year I'd like to feel competent enough to get out to a few runs.

    Re: Run For The Kids

Thanks for that Lorna! No, the month after the arrival of #3 is probably not the best time to be doing a run!

Actually, my friends and I were just discussing the Run to the G this morning (they're doing the RFTK as well) and one of them said she didn't think it was in June b/c she didn't think any of us would have been doing one in winter!!!! I knew it was , though! What a convoluted name they've chosen - Run to the G rolls off the tongue much easier!!! Anyway, better get my backside into gear and get ready for that one! Oh, and next year, I  expect to see you there, Lorna (and Jane, and Kaz!!!) Alison

    Re: Run For The Kids

Yes, I'm surprised they changed the name of probably the highest profiled running event in Melbourne.  I'm a tiny bit put off this event because it's packed, I've heard.  But if I could do the 5K without thinking about breaking into a walk, I'd be rapt - so, yes, look for me next year.

They also have a 5K and 7.5K walk, if any walkers are interested??

    Re: Run For The Kids

"run to the g" used to do just that run TO the G

it then denigrated to run around the outside of the G

with the name change its a run round the tan then to treasury gardens via the G *yawn*

and pay $40 for the pleasure...

the Half is run the whole lot twice, I was thinking about doing this half but dont know if I could make myself run another lap of the same thing after 10kms...

    Re: Run For The Kids

Yes, running twice around the same thing seems a bit boring- esp 10km twice, it's bad enough running the 4km course twice for the 8km Spring Into Shape!!! Alison

    Re: Run For The Kids

    all done.....

tell you what I was glad it was today and not yesterday, was frigid here!  This morning was perfect for running

its a terrific course domain tunnel, bolte bridge, southbank, up flinders st

but the organisation and layout was again a complete and utter shambles, and somehow they let walkers got infront of the runners, I think we walked the first 4km, couldnt get past a walls of walkers, some 7 across....

do it again next year tho...

    Re: Run For The Kids

Alison,l WALKING the same 4k twice is a bit of a bore, too! LOL!

Morgan, well done! I hate it when the organisation is shocking like that, too. Usually the runners go first? How annoying! Glad it was not totally awful for you though!

    Re: Run For The Kids

ClapHey, well done again m0rgan! Next year I'll get back to it, once I've got myself back into it all! We'll have to get lots of Melbournites from here to do it, and have a coffee afterwards!

I hated the tunnel bit the most - and the bridge was pretty slow going.

But, you did it, so that's the main thing!  Alison
