    Beep Test

    Hiya,

Maybe Ray you can answer this question for me?

My hubby and I were talking about the beep test and we were wondering where we could buy one? I'm assuming it is like a little clock or something like that. I have never ever done one so I wouldn't know what the device is.

Hoping you can shed some light!

    Thanks. Step

    Re: Beep Test

    Hi Nat

    Ummm nup! :)

Effectively it's running shuttle running/sprints. The "beep" part of the beep test sort of originates in what it's used for - keeping up with beeps to see your speed. In this case, as a way of determining speed/fitness for quite strenuous jobs, and is used as an entry requirement for things such as the defence force, police and fire brigade. Here's a little description for you:

"The first test is the 'Multistage fitness test' or 'beep test'. In this test, you run to and fro along a 20 metre track (usually in a Gym), keeping up with a series of beeps on a cassette. The timing of the beeps gradually increases until you can no longer keep up and this defines the level achieved. The minimum requirement for both males and females is Level 7.5 or 56 shuttles for a total of 1,120 metres in 6 minutes 30 seconds." (from the defence force website)

So you could get some kind of marker, mark out a 20 metre track and do shuttle runs and increase your fitness that way. I do this with my daughter when we walk (she's also athletics/cross country training)... we do it without the beep.

    Hope that helps!

    xx

    Re: Beep Test

I'm fairly certain if you look under the recruiting section on WA Police Service's website there is also a link for where to buy a beep test CD.

    Re: Beep Test

my first post on the site after looking around for a few weeks :-)

nat, you can spend the cash on those flash beep tests but the easiest way is simply to download the beep test and burn it to a CD. after all, it is after all just a song of beeps !
