With a tear in my eye, I say hello

    First things first,
Hello everyone! I'm looking forward to talking to some of you and sharing our thoughts, ideas and opinions all about health and weightloss.

I'm sitting here feeling a little emotional because i'm so amazed at this website and the oppurtunies it can give..
I have spent numerous hours browsing online for free weight loss programs (exercise and meals) to help me take the step in the right direction..
There are far to many scams out there and this site seems easy, free and for lack of a better word 'Possible'
I signed up for the free exercise program and meal planner and everything is SIMPLE!!
It's just going to come down to motivation in the end whether i can emotionally keep myself going..
I've been to ashamed to approach a fitness instructor at my local gym, in fact ive just stopped going all together.
I'm going to attempt this by myself..

Although not entirely by myself, my partner will push me along also as she is also in the same frame of mind and looking forward to getting fit and healthy..

Lately i've been feeling depressed and unhappy..
I'm only 21 years old and feel embarresed and disgraced in so many situations.
    Eating in public.
Going out clubbing because i feel fat.
    Buying new clothes.
    Swimming at my parents place.
    etc etc

I feel so unhealthy and i feel my body struggle more and more each day.
I don't think i'm hugely overweight, but i know my body has changed rapidly in the past year due to stress and other factors that have contributed to my quick weight gain.

So that is why i feel like crying..
Because i'm nervous, scared and trying to be hopeful..

I know thats a bit of a ramble and really i should just say hello!
But i feel like venting and where better then on the internet!! haha

    Talk to you soon :)

p.s I'm not sure if the man who runs this site (Ray) even reads these but i think what he has created on this site is great!!

Re: With a tear in my eye, I say hello

    Hi Snazza,

Welcome to the site, and thanks for the kind words. The forum may get a little quiet sometimes, but we do get 3000-4000 unique visitors each day from around the world so it's always great to see people using the tips provided.

The best advice I can give is to get started. You know what you have to do: exercise daily, eat fresh foods, and watch your portion sizes.

Get more good days in than bad and you'll be in front!

    Good luck

Re: With a tear in my eye, I say hello

Hey Snazza, Welcome to the site.

First off, big hugs. I know with far too much experience how that scared sad nervous disappointed crying feels.

But I also know what it is like to have wasted my 20's being overweight and ashamed and hiding from the world. My strongest word of advice to you is to NOT waste those 20's hiding in shame and self-hatred.

    1. Get exercising. Cheapest way to do that is to walk. There's a stack of exercises on here that you can do which Ray has prepared, that cost you nothing, you can do them outside in your garden or in the park or in your lounge room. Just 30 minutes a day will help you take permanent steps to a healthier body. You will also begin to feel better about yourself.

    2. Follow a structured, well balanced and proven eating program, like Weight Watchers. (If you can't afford to go to meetings, buy their magazine & follow the food plan in that. It's pretty self-explanatory). Don't fall into the trap I did of not knowing what good nutrition was (until my 30's...argh!), of fad diets, pills, potions and money-sucking things that do not work. You will go crazy if you follow that kind of thinking - there is NO MAGIC SOLUTION.

    3. Don't give up. By doing good each day, you will come closer to your goals. Stick to a plan, don't falter. If you lapse, get right back up and onto it - if you end up eating stuff you wish you hadn't, don't beat yourself up, get off your bum & go for a walk. The worst thing you can do is fall into the self-loathing, negativity trap that so many people do. It ends up doing nothing but harm to yourself.

    4. Find something each day that you are proud of. Gather your cheerleaders. They will help you reach your goal. Get a whiteboard on your fridge & write down the things you are proud of. Lost a kilo? Write it down! In big bold numbers!

I hope some of this helps. It's the basics of what I've learned. Good luck. Ask all the questions you need to.

Re: With a tear in my eye, I say hello

    Hi Snazza,

Welcome.  You will receive so much good advice and Ray regularly posts and will answer any questions you have.

My advice is:  to start writing everything down.  What you eat and how you are feeling when you feel the need to eat junk.  For me being lonely frustrated and being bored all the time I need to eat.  You should also approach the fitness instructor at your gym.  I recently joined a gym weighing 161kgs and I can assure you I was very embarrassed and ashamed but the trainers were wonderful and I my trainer has admitted that he gets more satisfaction training me because he can see the changes from day to day. Eg could only walk on the treadmill now I run and the body changes.
