    Re: Maternity leave...week 2

Thanks for the thoughts...dad to be is worried enough for all of us- I think reality is setting in.  I can't wait to meet the little one and see who's been kicking my insides for the past few months.

    Re: Maternity leave...week 2

The news at the doctors wasn't so bad...turns out the baby's coming out by caesarian in two weeks (around 2 - 4 July) unless I have a bad turn between now and then.

In my blood test the uric acid levels are high.  High uric acid is an indicator that pre-eclempsia is on its way; also it's a good indicator of kidney failure.  However normally the other kidney tests in the bloodwork are bad too and all of my other results are normal.  So I've been given the steroid injections just as a precaution should bubs need to come out.  Dad to be is a little relieved.  And he still gets to go to his golf club championship on the 20th July (he's winning).

I had PE with my first, Nat.  My BP was around 145/100 and proteurea(sp?) meaning protein in my urine (4+).  Try to do the impossible and not overthink or worry about things Big Smile - lots of rest and drink more water than you're thirsty for.  I sense everything's going to be fine and I feel relieved for you!

    Re: Maternity leave...week 2

They're waiting for the pre-eclempsia to start..apparently the uric acid reading is a sure sign but my blood pressure and kidney function tests are fine.  I'm loaded up with steroids now which means my blood sugar's all over the place.  The obstetrician said not to worry about my sugar levels for a few days.  I've got to see the consultant physician tomorrow and the obstetrician says the physician will probably make me go on insulin.  Hopefully it's not going to be that drastic.

Oh and I've got my contract law exam tomorrow arvo after my doctors appointment.  Just what I need- I hope they give me a desk near the loos.  I don't think I can cross my legs for two whole hours.

I'm looking forward to having a few days to put my feet up before bubs arrives.  The hospital bag is packed.  I think there are enough baby supplies in the cupboard and there are clean sheets on the cot.  Carseat's being installed on the weekend- we shoulda got a bigger car but I'll survive with the bubble for a while.

    Re: Maternity leave...week 3

The baby still hasn't arrived and the doctor doesn't want to pick a date.  He's just keeping an eye on things at the moment- 2 visits a week, 2 blood tests and I just had another ultrasound and baby's weighing in at 3200 grams or around 7 pounds 3 ounces with 4 weeks to go until my due date.  The doctor's hoping I'll be ok to deliver in about a week's time- will see what he has to say at my appointment tomorrow.

All I know is I feel huge and I can't wait to meet this little person.  My stomach & internal organs have had enough of being kicked and I really want some sushi and fresh seafood.

    It's a boy

Baby Leigh Peter arrived on Thursday afternoon.  I went into labour all on my own early on Thursday morning and ended up having a natural birth.  I was lucky to have a good labour- 6 hours and no drugs.  We have a healthy little boy who weighed in at 7 pounds 7 ounces or 3360 grams.  He's a pretty good size considering he's 4 weeks early.  We came home from hospital this morning.

    Re: It's a boy

Dad's great.  He stayed for all of the labour and watched his son arrive and he got to cut the cord.  I didn't think he would go the distance but once labour started he couldn't leave.  Half way through the labour he told the midwife he's planning on at least 4 children.  I just wanted to hurt him for that comment.

I've been lucky so far- he's such a good baby and only cries when he's hungry.  We even went shopping today and didn't have any tears.  The girl next door who's 10 or 11 already wants to marry Leigh.

    Re: It's a boy

Just as Leigh started to sleep through for 6 - 7 hours..he got sick.  I've had the poor little fella in the Mater Childrens Hospital having surgery for pyloric stenosis- the muscle controlling the valve between his bowel & stomach thickened so the food wasn't passing through.  The 4 nights in hospital were the longest 4 nights of my life but he's rapidly improving and guzzling down his food now instead of vomiting all over me.

Hopefully I can get into a routine and start taking him for some decent walks and get a few kilos off.  Turns out in the 2 weeks after his birth I lost 10kg and it's having a really excellent result on my diabetes.
