    Jen's Journal

    Hi

Well Im new to this, so here it goes.  I work full-time, go to Tafe on Tuesday and Thursday nights - as well as going to the gym (which I've been doing for a month).  Ive been going to the gym 3 times a week doing cardio for either half or 1hr depending on timing, weights (once or twice a week) and I have been trying to do walks before Tafe.  Actually Im so proud of myself. I went for a half hr walk around a park close to Tafe Walk1 [walk1] - was very sweaty when I got there since it was a hot day.I enjoy going to the gym and I am trying to vary my workout when I can.  Currently I do:

    Cardio: Exercise1 [exercise1]

    Treadmill: 25 mins

    Bike: 20 - 25 mins

Cross trainer: 5 mins - too hard

    Upright Bike: 10 mins

    Weights:

The gyms punishing accessories - ie: lat pull, extension etc .. the arms are vary from 10kg - 15kg since I have no upper body strenght at all.  My legs are usually 15-20kg.

I did a personal training session with some evil looking machines  -  have no idea what there called.  They weren't too bad. There was one with the legs were u lay down and push the weight up and down.  Then there was the weights on the bar where I had to push up and down - that I found very difficult!!!! I did some boxing Boxing1 [boxing1] (which I enjoy) and situps on the fitball (which hurt - but no pain no gain) and other floor exercises.

I've been watching what I eat but find it difficult on Tafe days as I come home so hungry and eat around 930pm. I cant eat earlier (since I finish work at 430pm) and I am not hungry.  Im currently doing the 6300kj intake but find that on some days I only eat 5000kj or less but then other day's (ie: tafe days) I eat more than 6300kj.  Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Well must go, hope to lose something this week, weigh in tomorrow at the gym....

Take care everyone and good luck with your weight loss.

    Jen

    Hi Jen

It sounds like you are a busy chick!  Good on you for going to the gym and doing cardio and weights.  I go to pump class 3 times a week (which I now love) but don't think I could handle the gym - I don't really know what to do!

Maybe on your TAFE days is it possible to have a snack before you go?  I know your not hungry but maybe something small like a cup-of-soup, piece of fruit or slice of fruit toast?  Or do you have a break while you are at Tafe that you can have something?  I would probably have something small before I left, something during my time at tafe and something small when I came home.  Through trial and error you will probably figure something out.  Or maybe you can eat more during the day so you are not so hungry at night.

    Re: Jen's Journal

    Hi Marissa,

Thanks for your advise. I tried taking food and eating it earlier but it sometimes is really difficult.  I think I'll just have to have something and hopefully after a few mouthfuls then I'll be hungry.

Yeah, I am a bit busy, but you have to make the time to get yourself fit otherwise you'll continue to struggle and end up putting on more weight.

Pump classes are pretty hard - that's with the weights isnt it?  Anyway, I reckon you will be able to do the gym, after all if I can see a 65-70 year old at my gym on the cross trainer (which I find really difficult),doing the treadmill, bike, fitball exercises - then anyone can.  Even though she wasn't going fast she was still moving her body and I congratulate her for doing that - especially at her age. Perhaps try an all female gym in your area.  I go to Fernwood and absolutely love it.  The people are great and motivating.  If you have a problem they'll work around it to find a solution and not tell you that you have to do unless your with the personal trainer and you dont like the exercise your doing cuz you know its going to hurt but that's just me being lazy and she know's that.  Otherwise enlist the help of a friend as a motivator to go to the gym with you.  I know the machines look daunting but if you get a personal trainer to go round with you and show you the equipment - you will feel happy with yoursef and proud that you've accomplished something that you think is difficult.  Trust in yourself that you can do it.....

    Re: Jen's Journal

    Update:

    Gym:

    Cardio:

             Treadmill: 30 mins

             Bike: 20 mins

Cross trainer: 10 mins (very proud of myself since I normally can only do 5 mins - woohoo) Big Smile [:D]

Situps on the fitball - 40

    Assorted Floor Exercises

Weights circuit - only once as I had to leave

    WEIGHED IN AT 91.4kg

I was planning to go to the gym on Monday to do a boxing class but since I was at hospital till the early morning cuz my boyfriend was sick, I was too tired to go to that class especially as I had to go to work in the afternoon as my boss was sick - so we played tag team.  He was on the morning shift; I was the arvo shift.

Anyway, I was just naughty.  In an attempt to be good I purchased those Sun Rice packet meals that you heat in the microwave and serve.  Well the one I had was absolutely awful and I was hungry and had nothing else.  So ended up going down the road to get some lunch.  What I should have done was bought something healthy - little bit hard when all there are is takeaway places such as pizza, kebabs, cafes etc.. I suppose I could of found something but I have my periods and was craving salt.  So I went and had a sausage roll (made with carrots and other vegies - very odd but nice), small chips which I could not eat all (only had half a small packet), and a small chocolate donut (this is one of many weaknesses).  So Im off to a great start.  Damn!!!

Well, I can only say that you learn from your mistakes and to continue on.  But if anyone has a food substitute for when Im craving salt - Im all ears...okay in this instance .. eyes...

BTW, did I mention I had GPK - which is beautiful pizza (handmade) with garlic twists.  Aaaah, I can taste the garlic and salt now.  Now can you see my problem.  HELP !!!  HELP !!!  HELP !!!

    Re: Jen's Journal

10/5/06       7.2kg down ... for the moment ... judgement day on Saturday 13/5/06

So I've just realised I've been posting my journals in the wrong section, oopsy.  Anyway, still going to the gym - 3 times a week doing cardio and weights.  But I feel really really really tired today - well actually for about a week now and can't shake it off.  I feel like I could sleep all weekend.  I haven't been sleeping properly cuz I've either gotten home late from Tafe and then couldn't sleep (BTW: Late is around 12:00 and waking up at 7:00ish) or just was watching T.V.

So, I have a gym appt today with my personal trainer.  Feel like cancelling but I wont.  Just sooooooooooo tired !!!! I had Tafe last night till 9:10; so I didn't get home till after 9:40.

I havent lost any weight for the last 3 weeks and feel like the weight may be coming back on - not happy.  Anyway, still gonna keep at it.

Need to find a way that when Im tired not to reach to crap foods - like now cuz I just went next door from work to pick up a choc chip muffin (1865kj - 9.87fat - not good and I know that but I can't help it).  When I feel tired, deflated, unmotivated, I reach for those types of foods.  Junk!  Need to adjust those taste buds.  I've been looking at the time thinking its going sooooooooooo slow today, will be happy when today is all over.  Will only do cardio for 1/2hr and personal training session for 1/2hr and then off to home to relax and have a nice hot shower and sleep.  Note to self to have an early night.

I also feel like I should be drinking more water ...

    Re: Jen's Journal

    Hi Cowgirl,

    Gee your very motivating!!

Thanks for the encouragement - I know 7.2kg is great but don't you just hate it when you don't lose weight and put all the hard work into working out.

Anyway, my PT suggested I vary my workout since I had only been doing cardio and weights.  She said I need to "shock" the body.  So I've decided Im going to shock my body with classes.  Im going to do a step class, boxing, body pump technique (what ever that is - think it involves weights) and a fat burner class.

Im going to review my food diary with my slimplicity coach (fernwood gym) on saturday and see what she suggests.

Im also going to try and play tennis over the weekend provided it doesn't rain.

hopefully this may help you too!

    must drink more water............

    thanks

    Hello [hello] Hi Jen,

I Have read through your thread and am amazed at the energy and zest you seem to put into your work/study/body. Clap [clap]

Just wanted to ask you a question - What, if anything, do you do for your soul? You put a lot of effort in to eveything else, I think it is important to take time out to take care of yourself on a different level. If you can, take a body and soul class at your gym (combo of TaiChi, Pilates and Yoga). You walk out feeling so invigorated and have a feeling of peace as well. You might not feel like you are having a workout but you can feel it the next day.

I find if I am super busy my body becomes stressed and retains fluids. Perhaps your plateau could be stress related?Idea [I]

Good Luck and I hope you start to lose soon.

    Hello [hello]

    Re: Jen's Journal

    To Skinny-Me and Little Miss,

Gee, I really don't feel inspirational.  Just trying to lose that damn weight that I've had for such a long time - and I do mean a long time.  If it encourages anyone to get off and shake that butt into action, all power to you and hopefully me.

In answer to your question Little Miss:  I would like to do Yoga or Pilates but again its the time factor.  When they have the classes on; I can't attend cuz of tafe.  I also jsut find listening to music help's destress me drastically.  I went to see Beth Orton last month, she was great in concert - but I was really tired after that. Oh well, I had fun and that's the important thing and its not like I do that all the time.

To de-stress I'll:            Go out with mates, go for a walk / drive with boyfriend, exercise, or sleep.  Sometimes I find that a little nap on a Saturday afternoon is required - especially after a hard workout at the gym.  Hopefully my timetable changes next semester so it allows me to do some other classes I would like to try - but we will see.

I do also retain fluid but that's a family thing. My sister and my cousins - we all seem to have fluid retention in our right foot only - very bizzare!! hmmm... anyway hopefully will kick this butt back into shape and shock it a little.  Might need to change some of the foods I eat as well.

    Good luck girls / guys....

    11/5/06 - Thursday.

Gee I hate Tuesdays and Thursday's just cuz it makes for a long day.  I have work till 4:30 and then Tafe class from 6-9pm.  So obviously no exercise on these days.  Can't wait for the holiday's to come round again.  Not long now......  I did manage to do 50 reverse crunches and 50 situps.

    12/5/06 - Friday.

Woke up this morning thinking it was Saturday, BUGGER!!

Well Im at work at the moment and Im trying to get out earlier so I can go to a fat blaster class.  Lets hope it blasts quite a bit of fat away before I weigh in tomorrow.  I know I have put on, but that's life.

Going to cook Skinny Carbonara tonite.  Recipe as follows.  It's really nice, so enjoy.

    Skinny Carbonara

    Ingredients: [Serves:4]
    1 tablespoon water
    4 spring onions, diagonally sliced
5 slices lean 97% fat free ham, cut into thin strips
    1 egg, lightly beaten
    375ml canned light evaporated milk
1/2 cup grated Australian Parmesan Cheese
400g fettucine pasta, cooked until ‘al dente’ and drained
salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
    Method:

    1. Place water in a large non-stick frypan and heat until simmering. Reserve 2 tablespoons of spring onions for garnish. Add remaining spring onions to the pan and cook, stirring until softened and water has evaporated. Add ham and cook, stirring for 2 minutes until lightly browned.

    2. Whisk egg, evaporated milk and cheese together and add to the pan. Simmer for 2-3 minutes or until slightly thickened, stirring occasionally. .

    3. Season to taste and toss in pasta until heated through. Serve garnished with reserved spring onion and sprinkled with black pepper.

All recipes tested using standard 250 ml cup and 20 ml tablespoon.

    Re: Jen's Journal

    13/5/06:   Gym: Cardio: 30 mins

                            Weights: 30 mins

15/5/06:    Was suppose to go to the gym straight after work; but forgot my joggers at home (damn!).  So I thought that I would do an exercise DVD - the one I received from Ray (BL Workout) but I forgot it at work - Gee; the memories laging.

    16/5/06:     Tafe - no exercise

17/5/06:    Going to do a pump class - heaven help me since I am not really strong in the upper body area.

    18/5/06:   Tafe -  no exercise

19/5/06:    Gym: Fat Blaster class for 1/2hr

Food:   Was really not good last night. My mum got for mothers day a HUGE basket of goodies (ie: biscuits, biscotti, crackers - but no small sizing - think the size of a saucer plate - remember that we are Europeans with BIG eyes and so nothing in small doses really).  Anyway, sidetracking, I had 14 almond biscuits -  i know 14 - wayyyyyyyyyyyy toooooooooooooooooooooo manyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy but they were so nice.  The old saying; once you pop you just cant stop.  Well, that was me last night.  So can't do that again; especially when the big basket is still there.   And yes, my mum said I could have them.

Okay,  I was going to do a pump class yesterday but had a really sore back and neck and thought there's no way I could of gone, so instead I went home and played the BL workout DVD - but had to play it on the laptop cuz its US Region.  Surf The Web

Anyway; does anyone have any advise how to turn up the volume from Windows Media Player.  Its already really high but when they speak; you can hardly hear them.  I tried adjusting going into View, Enchancements, Graphic Equaliser - but I cant adjust anything there.  I've tried looking in Tool, options, but clearly Im missing something.  Any advise will be great.

    Thanks all.

On my keyboard above all the function buttons i have all the buttons you would find on a cd player/stereo IE ff, rewind, stop start and in the middle is a plus and minus button. These are used separate to the windows media player.

    Hope this helps.
